“We need to approach others with the generosity we would ourselves want someone approaching us” – the wise professor gives a clinic on how to engage in serious dialogue
I loved this interview. You showed keen understanding of the book and asked thoughtful questions that drew out more ideas. Thanks for sharing this interview with me. I'm looking forward to reading more of what you do.
Thanks so much, Emily, for your thoughtful comment. And thank your reading the interview. Your father's book has really influenced and directed a lot of my philosophy of public discourse and reinforced the values and ideas I already had. He helped coalesce them into place. As a Russian-language speaker and enthusiast of Russian literature and culture, I have followed your father's writing for years. It was his journalistic writing that first put me on his track and then his academic writing. You may recall that I conducted this interview with him last year about his book on the timeless questions of Russian literature: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cr9uoULnzkA&t=3119s

How did you come across my father's work?

Emily, in 2020 your father and I also wrote chapters in an academic book by the University of Notre Dame Press called "Solzhenitsyn and American Culture: The Russian Soul in the West." My chapter was the introductory chapter and his was in the middle. https://undpress.nd.edu/blog/2020/10/26/new-anthology-explores-alexander-solzhenitsyns-work/
